Artificial Grass.
Artificial Grass is an increasingly popular choice for both private gardens, public areas and sports fields.
In USA and Europe it is an important part of going green. In addition, companies and homeowners recover their initial cost after a few years and enjoy having lawned areas that remain lush, green and vibrant all year round. It is no surprise that every year there is significant increase in the use of artificial grass for landscaping in private and public areas as well as in sports fields.
In sport, artificial grass is recognised by most major global associations. These include FIFA and RFU. After extensive testing, some football pitches in the Premier League use a mixture of natural grass interwoven with artificial grass.
History: David Chaney and his team in North Carolina developed the first notable artificial turf in 1960. Artificial grass first came to prominence in 1966, when AstroTurf was installed in the Astrodome in Houston, Texas. Sadly this failed miserably but with significant research and development, synthetic grass today is safe and very durable.
Now fake grass is widely used in sport fields in USA. In baseball, the ball bounces higher on synthetic grass. In 2000 the softer field turf was introduced.
Field Hockey: Artificial grass has changed the sport of field hockey. Introduced in 1970, it has increased the speed of the game and changed the shape of hockey sticks to allow for different techniques, such as reverse stick trapping and hitting.
Association Football: QPR was the first to use synthetic grass in 1981 soon followed by Luton Town, Oldham Athletic and Preston. Today a mixture of natural grass and synthetic grass works best. Fake grass is now used in Ski and Snowboarding resorts, tennis, and airports.
Benefits of Artificial Grass:
- Synthetic grass is good for the environment.
- There is no further use of water and your artificial lawn will remain green and lush in the worst possible drought.
- The amount of people allergic to grass is increasing annually. If you are allergic to grass pollen, fake grass lawn means you still enjoy the outdoors.
- There are no weeds or pests, so no further use of weed killers or pesticides. No further need for fertilisers.
- You spend you well earned spare time enjoying your lawn rather than trying to maintain it.
- Great for Kids and pets
Other advantages of Artificial grass:
If the environment is particularly hostile to natural grass, artificial turf will change the look and use especially arid areas or where thereĀ is little natural light.
Artificial grass is tough and will withstand a lot more use than natural grass. This enables sport grounds to be used more extensively with little maintenance or repair.
If you own a holiday home, artificial lawn is an excellent choice because maintenance of a natural lawns may be impractical. Elderly homeowners will not have to worry about continued upkeep of their lawns.
You can use it on roof gardens, around swimming pools or even indoors.
